A Andreas Kümmert? There was something. Oh yes. The man who pulverized the competition at Voice Of Germany with his incredible voice and left the judges open-mouthed. In 2013, the “Tube from Gemünden” confidently won the third season of the TV casting show “The Voice Of Germany”. But there was also the man who won the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest under the motto “Our Song for Austria” in 2015 with similar ease and then waived the final in Vienna in front of the camera.
Andreas Kümmert is an individualist and that’s a good thing. An artist with his own ideas, but also with his own demons. He made them public on the album “Recovery Case” (2016). His problem: anxiety and depression, psychotherapeutic treatment, medication. Kümmert actually explained to all his critics in detail why he is the way he is. And that he doesn’t always do what everyone expects of him.
V There was a major setback last year. After “Lost And Found”, his third album for the major label Universal, the media group has ended the collaboration. And his management also said goodbye. But, as is well known, there is a new beginning at each end. With Vomit Records Andreas promptly founded his own label and decided to continue on his own in the future. Back to the roots. No more marketing experts or A&Rs messing around. Andreas Kümmert pure.
That’s why “Harlekin Dreams” probably has the largest range of all Kümmert albums. Rough rock’n’roll, soul and blues music. In the Sonic Storm Studio in Würzburg, his new studio album was created with meticulous precision. Andreas Kümmert worked with producer and sound engineer Dominik Heidinger on the new songs for more than nine months. This time he recorded all the instruments himself and completely avoided the help of co-songwriters.
For Andreas Kümmert, “Harlequin Dreams” is a kind of opus magnum. A relief, after all the compromises and setbacks. Maybe even the album he always wanted to do. Just listen to yourself.
